I Remodeled My Display Boxes with Help of these Packaging Principles and Results Were Stunning

Hi there:

Just like you folks I also started a business. It was a lipstick brand and although I tasted some bade blood, finally the business is out of the breakeven period and I am making good money out of it.

This is a story of how display boxes changed my business from nothing to everything that I could count on.

At first my business was not doing well. Since it was a new brand and the packaging was hardly acceptable, my company’s lipstick boxes could only win space in the most inconspicuous corner of a store.

Then a friend advised me to try to display packaging; yes the boxes that you see on cash counter, when you are about to check out.

Now:

If you think that I just tried clear display boxes, my business took a 360 degree turn and I started living happily ever after, this is kind of folk tales.

I am not telling you a bedtime story; what actually happened that my display boxes were still not considered worthy of cash registers, but they win some customer interaction.

I talked to the same friend who advised me to try the display packaging; he vetted my display boxes and told me a few flaws that he noticed.

I tried his packaging principles and bingo! It changed everything. My display boxes win their place on cash counters and pretty soon sales were going record high.

Here are those packaging principles that I followed:

  1. Link between Packaging and Product

There is always a link between packaging and the product. If your packaging does not reflect the nature of the product packed inside it, it is a fail.

My acrylic display boxes were very attractive, but they failed to make a link with the lipsticks packed inside them.

I changed it an added colors and graphics related to my products and pretty soon started noticing good results.

Remember:

The packaging of a deck of poker cards should not like that of cigarettes. Confuse the customer and you will get your lesson.

  1. Unique Shape

From candies and chocolates to cosmetics and items of daily hygiene, the display boxes are the same. Dual bottom to hold on the products, one long background wall with product images and company name etc. and two diagonal walls!

There might be a time when this was the most unique shape of mini display boxes; it is not the case anymore.

Now every Tom, Dick or Harry knows that retail display boxes are the express way to sales boost and most of the times they try the same typical shape that I have mentioned before.

We need to do out of the box to get noticed. I tried different type of display packaging; my boxes were oval shaped.

Try something new or exciting.

  1. Use Emotional Triggers

Try humor, political satire, Holidays approach or emotionality, but you have to have some sort of social appeal or other emotional triggers to attract more and more people.

Y’all know how Starbucks got it handed out to them. They could not remove Christmas-related signs and symbols from their Christmas season coffee mugs and still do good business.

Public deals ruthlessly with a business that does not care of their emotions, religious sentiments and cultural affiliations.

Never ignore them; instead, try to exploit them with your counter display boxes, and see how everything turns out in your favor.

Try these principles and turn the tides in your favor before it is too late.
